Cloudflare Pages vs Vercel

Vercel is the default choice for Next.js; Cloudflare Pages is framework-agnostic with a famously generous free tier. Here's how they compare.

Updated 2026-08-31

This comparison usually comes up at the framework-choice stage. Vercel built its platform around Next.js specifically, with Git-based preview deploys and an edge network tuned for that workflow. Cloudflare Pages is framework-agnostic in a similar way, but leans on Cloudflare's own edge network and a free tier that doesn't punish high-traffic static sites the way usage-based pricing sometimes can.

When to choose Vercel

If you're building with Next.js or another framework Vercel optimizes for, its Git integration and per-branch preview deploys are genuinely well-built, and the Hobby tier is generous for personal projects. It's the more mature choice when your app has real server-rendered logic behind it, not just static output.

When to choose Cloudflare Pages

If your site is largely static or framework-light, and especially if traffic is unpredictable, Cloudflare Pages avoids the usage-based pricing spikes that can show up on Vercel's paid tiers under high load. It's also a natural fit if you already use Cloudflare for DNS or security.

If you just need to host static files

Both of these are Git-based platforms built around an ongoing build pipeline, which is more than a static site with no build step actually needs. Flaash covers that narrower job directly: drop a folder or .zip into the browser and it's live on a *.flaash.live subdomain immediately, no repo or framework detection involved. The honest tradeoff is custom domains — both Cloudflare Pages and Vercel support them, and Flaash currently doesn't.

Frequently asked questions

Can Cloudflare Pages run a Next.js app the same way Vercel does? Partial support exists for some Next.js features via Cloudflare's adapters, but Vercel's integration is deeper and more consistently up to date with new framework releases.

Is Vercel's free tier enough for a small commercial project? The Hobby tier is intended for personal/non-commercial use; a small business site would typically need a paid plan once usage or commercial terms come into play.

Does Cloudflare Pages support serverless functions like Vercel does? Yes, via Cloudflare Workers integrated with Pages, though the developer experience and ecosystem around it is smaller than Vercel's function tooling.
